How To Create A Watermark In Procreate

Creating your own watermark as a brush makes it so much easier and faster than rewriting it every time. You can use it like a stamp and just tap the watermark on your artwork.

I am using the app Procreate on the iPad Pro 11 inch 2020 with the Apple Pencil 2.

1. draw your Watermark and Save as PNG

First, you need to draw or type your watermark that you want to make. If you are drawing it, I recommend drawing in white because most artworks use white for the watermark (the image here is for demonstration and is not what I used when I did it).

2. Create New Brush

Next, create a new brush for your watermark stamp. You can save it in your own brush library folder or just add it to your favorites.

3. Import your PNG

Under Shape, change the shape source to your PNG. The shape editor should open up, and then you can import your PNG as the new brush shape. Click done when you're done.

4. Shape Source

Under Shape, the shape source should be your new watermark PNG. It will appear like this as a regular brush, but we will fix it!

5. Spacing

Under Stroke path, change the spacing to Max so that there are no trails and it becomes a clear watermark.

6. Opacity

Under Apple Pencil, change the opacity to None. Unless you want this effect, it is best for a watermark to always be opaque. Turning opacity to none means whatever pressure you use with the pencil or your finger will not affect the opacity of the brush.

7. Maximum Size

Under Properties, change the brush behavior maximum size to the Max. While using your brush you can always scale it down, but it's better to have something too big and have to scale down than to have something small and have to resize up, which will pixelize the artwork.

8. Naming and Signature

This is not a necessary step, but under About this brush you can add your signature and title the brush "your name watermark" like I did.

9. Finished

Yay, you now have your very own watermark stamp brush! Easy peasy!

I hope this was easy to follow along. If you have any trouble with these steps, please let me know. Feel free to send in any pictures of your watermark, I'd love to see them!

I'm also very excited to be adding this new signature at the end of my blog posts!
(I used this watermark to make it!)
